We know about the winters, we know about the roads, so why do some people who could afford to live anywhere stay in Michigan? How do you build yourself a world class career here in the mitten state? What keeps you here? What does the state have to offer?
Jack talks with poet Thomas Lynch and Compuware CEO Peter Karmanos.
Today's show brought back so many TV memories. Sonny Elliott used to make me laugh with all of his made up weather words. I watched Sir Graves Ghastly every Saturday, I still think those old horror movies are the best. When I came home from school my Mom was watching a movie on Bill Kennedy, & I have not thought of Oopsie the clown is a very long time. My husband & I are always talking about all of these shows & how much we miss them. I may have to get him this book for Christmans.

I've lived in Michigan for 55 years and when people ask me where I'm from I put my mitten in the air and point to the palm below the thumb.

The beauty of our forests is astounding, and must be protected along with their watersheds. I love this state, but I am worried about my future career. My mom is being laid off from a GM contractor, my stepdad was a Detroit News striker, and my dad's printing business went under. My brother is an auto mechanic, but is struggling with jobs. I'm considering working for the DNR, and possibly nursing school. Still trying to figure out where a new graduate fits in to all this...

I was a member of the Greater Michigan Foundation (Michigan Week) for 20 years. My family is from Scotland and MI is the closest in many areas as that strong country. Many Scots settled here and with their creative minds and strengh, they added greatly to the power of MI. We have something no other State can claim, water, water, water and fair, hard working people at every skill level. Companies that are relocating are not taking responsibility for their lack of research and development. Anyone can make a "junk" product but we have the ability to make the best!
