Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson started floating the idea when gas hit four dollars a gallon: Let some government workers work four ten hour days instead of the regular, five eight hour days. The reason was to save gas. Recently, Governor Granholm has seconded the motion. But, does it really make sense for most workers? And, will it really save gas by limiting commutes? Daniel Hamermesh is a professor at the University of Texas. He’s been researching the idea of a four day work week. Michigan Radio’s Jack Lessenberry spoke with him.
