The Great Lakes region is essential to both the U.S. and Canadian economies. Now, a new report suggests that they are even more important than most of us know. And, that both nations need to make some big changes to remain economically competitive. John Austin is director of the Brookings Institution’s Great Lakes Economic Initiative. He is also the main author of the new report entitled, “The Vital Connection: Reclaiming Great Lakes Economic Leadership.” Michigan Radio’s Jack Lessenberry spoke with him.
