Bulllllllllll S.........
The UAW has raised the insurance bar to WAY above any standard an employer can began hope to achieve.

I do not feel sorry for their retires one bit as I am still paying their benefits each time I buy a car.
BOO HOO!!!!

Thanks, Kay cagle

Walter Reuther was admirable for having run a clean, decent, honest union. Which is saying a lot when it comes to most labor unions.

Today's UAW problems have little to do with Walter Reuther but everything to do with economics. Last I checked, they still teach economics at Wayne State University, and not just union history and union organizing and union politics and union management.

If Reuther were alive today and still the creative leader that he was, one thing he might do is to forge a new partnership with a political party other than the Democrat Party dominated by the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, Ed Markey and John Edwards. All of whom are more or less at war with the people and the companies who provide jobs to the UAW membership.

Very well written. I really enjoy your essays. That guy in the machine shop is still alive and well, and he’s pushing this ridiculous move to make Michigan a right to work for less state, privatization and trying to repel the prevailing wage law.
