Memorial Day used to be called Decoration Day and was started to honor the Civil War dead. But in time, it evolved into a holiday meant to honor the dead of all wars. Michael Sands is a high school teacher and a Vietnam Vet. He was instrumental in getting Michigan’s Vietnam Memorial built in Lansing. Michgian Radio’s Jack Lessenberry spoke with him about attitudes toward veterans and Memorial Day.
